Culturally-Informed Metabolic Care

A digital health platform designed for
communities of colour. Coming soon.

The Vision

A culturally-adaptive digital health platform that improves chronic disease outcomes by translating medical care into behaviour change rooted in culture, food, and lived experience

Why Nourra Exists

Racialized communities and Indigenous peoples carry a disproportionate burden of chronic metabolic disease.

The tools meant to support them weren’t designed around their unique needs. Nourra’s mission is to help close the gap by designing an accessible digital platform centered on culturally-informed care.

THE RESEARCH

  • Racialized Canadians develop Type 2 diabetes at up to 3.4x the rate of white Canadians.

  • Indigenous peoples living in Canada are among the highest-risk populations for diabetes and related complications.

  • Standard clinical tools including BMI thresholds do not accurately reflect the risk thresholds of ethnically diverse communities.

  • The risk and prevalence of developing metabolic syndromes—particularly PCOS—are significantly higher for Asian and Black women.

  • Filipino and Southeast Asian Canadians carry 54% higher odds of hypertension.

  • Cardiovascular disease disproportionately affects ethnic minority groups globally—and inequitable accessibility to interventions actively impede progress.

Our Roadmap

Built with intention. Scaled with purpose.

Racialized Canadians and Indigenous peoples represent a growing share of this country, and carry the greatest unmet burden in metabolic health. Population size and systemic inequities shape our sequencing. Nourra's roadmap is built to meet that reality with care and intention, guided by two core principles: proportionate need and equity building.

PHASE 1

East Asian &
Indigenous
Communities

PHASE 2

South Asian,
Southeast Asian,
& Black
Communities

PHASE 3

Arab and
Middle Eastern,
West Asian,
& Latin Communities

Each phase will take deliberate focus to design full community modules built with cultural advisors, community health organizations, and the communities themselves. Our approach prioritizes building with depth rather than scaling quickly at the expense of the people we're here to serve.
